“Not For Us” – It’s Mourinho That Has Changed, Not Spurs, When It Comes To Transfers

|

Tottenham Hotspur fans will be well aware of the long-standing transfer rumour mill links with Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes.

The 25-year-old versatile midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Spurs over the summer, but as we know, nothing ever came of it and as we continue the build-up to the New Year window, his name has featured pretty regularly once again with talk of a return for him – despite the player himself recently signing a new long term deal at the club, which would’ve done nothing for his valuation.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports manager Jose Mourinho addressed the topic of January strengthening and he ruled out Fernandes as simply being too expensive, and given his words, he seemed to suggest that he would now continue with what was Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred transfer strategy, investing in youth and looking to develop stars of the future – as opposed to bringing in the types of players who would be expected to have an immediate impact on our fortunes.

“I would definitely say no because Bruno is a player of a level and value that is not for us. We are not a club that is going to make big transfers in the market, nor is it going towards players who are already developed or at a certain level of expectation, also economically. We are a different club at this level.”

With many fans having an expectation that the arrival of Mourinho may have indicated a willingness to open the purse and push the boat, it doesn’t sound like that’s the case and I imagine there will be many fans now questioning Jose’s suitability to develop players in the longer term future – as that’s something he’s never really been renowned for.

If Our Strategy Hasn't Changed, Does Mourinho Have Even More Of A Short Term Future At Spurs?

He Can Still Do 3-5 yrs

He'll Be Lucky To Last 2 yrs
